644 words; about a 3 minute read

Mission: Resistance is Necessary
Location: Security Offices

OOC: Backpost takes place before the attack.

Jason Reeves strolled into the security offices which was on his next stop of seeing everyone around the ship. Lieutenant McKnight was on the verge of retiring from Starfleet. When the Commander was moved to First Officer, Aaron was the one who replaced him as the Chief of Security. The man had done a fine job and would definitely be missed. Coming around the corner, he spotted the man. "Aaron how are things going?"

The Chief of Security looked up from where he was packing up the remains of his personal affects from the office. An over 40 year career was about to end, various awards, plaques, pictures were still hanging on the walls and sitting on the desks and tables.

"Just packing up the last of it, Commander. It's funny, this ship was my first posting as a young crewman. A lot of good years on this ship." He commented.

"Still find it hard to believe that you managed to spend your entire career on this ship," Jason replied.

“Oh? Something odd about enjoying where you work? Fleet says to protect the ship, I protect the ship. Nothing real complicated about that. Or have you forgotten the things I taught you when you first came aboard?” Aaron smiles at the young man before him.

Reeves simply returned the smile. "How can I forget. Honestly, I still don't get why you never wanted to teach at the Academy. There's a wealth of knowledge in that head of yours that the next generation of officers can use."

"Never much care for teaching. Aside, I'm too old and cranky." McKnight chuckled. "I got grandkids who've only seen me from viewscreens, a wife nagging me to take her to Casperia. I'm ready to settle down."

"You're way too old school for these young kids anyways," Jason admitted. "The last we need is an increased drop out rate at the Academy."

Aaron let out a hearty laugh at the thought.

“Too true.” He picks up a crate.

“Help me take these crates down to the transporter, chief wanted them staged before we make orbit.”

"Here you are putting me to work," the Commander joked as he picked up a crate.

"Got to keep ya on your toes, Commander." McKnight chuckled as they both exited the office.

"So which one of the grandchildren will likely follow in your footsteps?"

"Probably Jack, I imagine. Chip off the ol' block he is"

"I can see you now running the poor kid through security drilled getting him prepped for the Academy," Reeves burst out laughing.

McKnight's laugh was just as harty.

"Oh, I have a feeling he'll be ran ragged by the instructors. Most of them I had the pleasure of training. But still, I am going to miss the space service. Lots of good years."

Stepping onto the turoblift, Reeves requested the bridge. "I'm just happy to get sometime in to visit with the girls. Before you know it, they'll like be off somewhere wanting to be with friends and avoiding dad."

"Cherish the time you have. Keep those memories close, but be proud that they're growing up to be strong women who I bet will follow in their dad's footsteps someday." Aaron reflected.

"That's the part that makes me a bit nervous," Jason admitted. "Kimora is way too much like me and sometimes she's blinded to the other things life has to offer. Leila is kind of her own person right now."

Suddenly an announcement came over the intercom. "All hands report to your stations."

"Let's get to the bridge. We can talk more about this later."

Arron nods, keying the bridge on the turbolifts panel as the ship went to red alert.
