Welcome to the USS Jane Addams!

Sun Tzu once said in part, 'don't depend on the enemy not coming' and you know, we should have listened to that. Embroidered it on pillows. Tattooed it on the council's collected foreheads. We didn't.

And in the end, we weren't ready. When they came, we just weren't ready.

As luck would have it, we were just returning home after a long patrol on the Cardassian border; the entire crew was talking about reconnecting with friends and family, spending time anywhere but on the ship. I remember the laughter and how it died as we entered the Sol System. I'd given the order to contact Starfleet command; our communication channels were flooded with screams and frantic requests for aid while the forward viewscreen filled with explosions and ... Borg.

Then, in the clear, came a record message:

Red Alert ... Red Alert ... We are under attack. All Starfleet vessels are ordered to leave the Sol System at once. Further instructions forthcoming. Repeat. Do not engage the Borg. Flee the system immediately.

We had room to take some and, honestly, I couldn't leave them all to die without at least trying to help. And I wasn't alone in that. Starship captains are a breed all their own or so its been said. We didn't coordinate. We acted. Some went on offense, sacrificing themselves and their ships, while the rest of us took on as many refugees as we could.

And then, we left. And the Borg? They stayed.

The USS Jane Addams is an alternate-history sim set aboard an aging Ambassador Class vessel in early 2367 (about the time that Wolf 359 occurred in regular canon). Starfleet, unable to mount a defense, has retreated from the Sol System and the council is presumed dead or worse, assimilated.

Until other members of Starfleet command are located, effective as of star date 44170.43, I am assuming command of the fleet. We are faced with an unprecedented situation; preliminary data suggests that the attack was highly coordinated and widespread, displaying a depth of understanding of the Federation and Starfleet we had not anticipated.

We are currently assessing the status of both member worlds and Starfleet assets. Toward that end, all captains are…

Mission: Resistance is Necessary
Posted on Wed May 7th, 2025 @ 12:36am by Lieutenant Noah Clarke & Captain M'Raz & Ensign Cameron Reed

Noah Clarke wiped away the sweat from his brow for the third time in recent minutes. The smoke filling the engineering department had stifled down to a mild, choking fog which undulated red every few seconds thanks to the red alert lights. Multiple console lights flickered with compromised power states, protesting the attack in their own way. One of them showed a tiny, static-filled image of space. Covering the distant, twinkling stars was a dark and ominous cube moved away from the camera.

The Oberth-class U.S.S. Archimedes drifted away, causing the haunting image on the screen to move off the…

Raz resisted the urge to pace as one by one, the captains came online; instead, he sat at his desk, tail twitching back and forth out of their view while he gathered himself to speak. "I'll get right to the point," he said. His natural voice was something of a deep rumble in his chest, on the edge of a growl that never appeared. "You should be receiving a packet that contains everything we have on the attack by the aliens calling themselves Borg from the perspective of the Jane Addams as well as survivor testimony from those we currently…

[Back With Henry]

"Twenty seven," Henry muttered under his breath as he dropped down into a Jeffries tube narrowing missing as an alien came around the corner and grabbed a master chief. Twenty seven moments when his life could have ended. "Now I get lucky," he grumbled as he crawled through a parallel shaft. "Couldn't have been at the poker game last week, noooo ... not then."

At the first hatch, he paused took a deep breath, and popped his head out, looking first one way and then the other with a sharp turn of his head. No aliens. Maybe…

[Aboard the Jane Addams]

The USS Jane Addams was first to drop out of warp within the Wolf system; Raz from his position in the center chair, "Take us to yellow alert and scan the system. If there are any Borg about, I want to know sooner rather than later."

"Aye, Sir. All stations, YELLOW ALERT!" Elias turned the ship to yellow alert as he glided over the tactical console controls, typing fast. "Sensors show Warp Wakes, 4-5 incoming. Federation warp class signatures."

"Very good. Mr. Taggart," Raz continued, "take us within range of Wolf 359."

Micheal nodded as he…

It hurt. One of those sharp pains that he wouldn't, couldn't speak about. Denali had been brilliant with two Ph.Ds and a talent for applied mathematics. Quirky. She preferred pen and paper. Kept journals. Left notes for herself. She loved her job and insisted on beaming down whenever they were heading into something new, something unknown.

Kabyn had been gentle and caring. Good at coaxing his patients into cooperation and certainly not above making house calls. Older but still capable of blushing when someone paid him a compliment. Wicked chess game. Not at his level but good enough that he…
