Mission:
Resistance is Necessary
Location: USS Jane Addams: Deck2- First Officer's Quarters
The Executive Officer grabbed his hot tea from the replicator and made his way to the couch where he took a seat. "Computer begin personal log."
The comm chirped indicating that it was ready for recording. "It has been a year since the Jane Addams was assigned to the Cardassian border. It wasn't a first and I am certain it won't be the last. But this past year, it felt a bit different. Currently the Federation and Cardassian Union has agreed to a cease fire, which is good. But with all the fighting that has taken place over the past decade. Many in Starfleet including this ship, find themselves walking on eggshells regarding the success of these diplomatic talks."
Jason stopped for a moment as he sipped his tea. Looking down at the table in the living room, he smiled at the picture of his two daughters Kimora and Leila. It was taken a little over two years ago. Now the girls were twelve and ten. They were currently on vacation with their mother Sakura on Trill and should be back to Mars by now. He loved being in Starfleet, but the part he hated was being away from his children for so long. But he planned to enjoy spending every moment of the next two weeks with them. Kimora wanted to see the Jane Addams before doing anything else. So, the tour for her was definitely coming. Afterwards they would spend a few days in Brazil, enjoying the beach. Leila wanted to see dolphins more than anything, so that was exactly what she would get to see. Taking another sip, he continued with his log.
"The Jane Addams will be arriving to Sol system in a few hours for the crew to enjoy some much-needed shore leave. I'm proud how each of them has carried themselves. Been on a few assignments, but I very much enjoy what this senior staff brings to the table. Hopefully where Starfleet decides to send us next involves not getting shot at on a consistent basis. Personally, I feel more than excited to spend time with my family."
Standing from the couch, he looked out the window. The stars quickly passed by as they were traveling at warp. For the last two years, Jason had served as the First Officer on the Amassador class ship. There was a certain level of pride that came with the position, that he never expected. Captain M'Raz was a good Captain and he was grateful for the opportunity to serve next to him. It would be several years before his own command would be an option. But Reeves couldn't help but to think what that would look like for him. Maybe even accepting a posting that would keep much closer to his girls. They were getting older and before you know it, Kimora would be attending Starfleet Academy in the next eight years. Time had a strange way of flying by pretty damn fast.
Reeves quickly shook himself out of those thoughts, remembering to remain the moment. Thinking too much of the future was never a good thing. Took away from enjoying the present. In the past, he made that mistake. One of the reasons his marriage failed among other reasons. Walking into the additional room that had two twin beds. Perhaps depending on the next missions, he could possibly convince Sakura to allow the girls to come with him. The experience would be good for them.
"I will make it a point to avoid work during this time off and focus on actually having one hundred percent fun. But in the meantime, I will do a random walkthrough and visit the heads of every department, just to make sure that things are ready for weeks off and to ensure that the folks underneath will actually make plans to leave this ship and enjoy themselves. Computer end log."
