Resistance is Necessary

Jason laid in his bed reading a novel. It had been another day, figuring out what to do with the Borg threat and basically getting the ship back in order. With all the refugees on board, things went from getting everyone situated to now dealing with issues concerning a ship full of restless and frustrated individuals. Honestly, he was happy to have a moment to himself where he could clear his head and focus on a bit of fantasy.
Entering the Sakura wore a pajama set as she moved towards the direction of the bed. The last couple of days, she had been camped out in the living while their daughters had their own bedroom. But tonight the air mattress didn't seem that comfortable. "Move over."
Looking over at the intruder, Jason sighed as he slid over making room for the mother of his children who climbed up under the covers. "So, what brings on this unexpected visit from your mattress?"
"I'm bother," she answered. "And as you know when I am bothered, I can't sleep. Especially on that damn thing in the living room."
"Actually, its pretty comfortable."
Sakura stared him down. "Then you sleep on that thing."
"But this is my room," he retorted. "Why would I leave?"
"You never been good at sharing."
Putting the PADD down, he realized that he wasn't going to get read, he looked right back at her. "In the past, I never had an issue sharing my bed with you. But this is the present."
The woman simply stared him down. It was a look that she was used to giving him. One that clearly said that she had so much on her mind. It had been years, since she felt this helpless and without purpose. Originally Sakura had insisted on staying on Jane Addams with the girls and Jason. There was safety in having family together. Perhaps she would be able to contribute in some way. Days later, she wondered if she was better off taking the girls and leaving the ship all together.
"What's on your mind?" Jason inquired.
"The next move to be honest," Meng answered. "I went from knowing my path and purpose. To simply waiting around on Starfleet to make a decision. We're hiding in a nebula. Morale clearly sucks around her and it's not getting better. And I can do nothing to help whatsoever."
Sitting up in bed, Jason thought about everything that was said. Morale was horrible and the Borg just took out a ship that attempted to make contact and work on some peace. Which turned out to be one big failure. For the most part Starfleet had gone radio silence with the occasional, transmission sent out. Over the years, he learned that there was a time for patience. This being one of those times. But even with patience, there had to be some sort of action taking place. "I'm sorry that you're dealing with this. Sorry that everyone who has lost their families, friends and entire lives destroyed under a quick invasion."
"Thank you for acknowledging that."
"Starfleet is the military regardless of being an exploration force," Reeves continued. "Every world most likely feels that we should be on the offensive and fortifying worlds. But to be honest, our leadership is dead and right now Starfleet is trying to rebuild the command structure. At the moment we have commanding officers with their own ideas on how to handle things. Once a solid command structure is officially in place, then we can begin making solid moves."
Sakura thought about what was just told to her. His explanation made perfect sense, but there were flaws in that plan. "And how many more systems will be lost while this slow process is happening?"
Sighing, he stared at the ceiling briefly. "Honestly I have no idea. That is way above my rank. But we'll be heading to Andor soon to drop off the refugees. Then we head out looking for answers. One less ship trying to fight them won't make a difference. Also take into account, it has only been three days."
"You're right about," she acknowledged. "Perhaps my own frustrations are clouding my judgment? You know that being useless and helpless isn't my thing."
Jason raised an eyebrow regarding the comment. "Not really sure if that's anyone's thing. Perhaps you should see a counselor."
"Does this ship even have a counselor onboard?" asked Sakura.
"We had a counselor," Reeves answered. "Unfortunately she was one of our losses."
Putting her hand over her mouth, Sakura realized that she definitely stepped in it. "I'm so sorry. Had no idea and honestly don't know who was lost in the attack. How are you managing all of this?"
The Commander thought about the question. It wanted to give some sort of encouraging and motivating response. But in all hoensty and oddly enough it was just the two of them in this bed, "Hate losing a fight as always. Especially when it involves me getting my ass kicked badly."
"Technically your not the commanding officer of the Jane Addams, so in reality Captain M'Raz got his ass kicked,"
"Really now?"
Sighing she held up her hands. "I apologize, just trying to lighten the mood."
"I'm the Captain's right-hand man," Jason responded. "If he takes an ass kicking in battle, then I am there with and just as responsible for the loss."
"Clearly neither one of you saw this Borg thing coming. The Jane Addams was just one ship that couldn't get he job done. But needless to say this ship survived unlike so many others. Starfleet is up against a superior enemy. That's not a reflection on either one of you. So stop going around saying you got your ass kicked."
Jason looked over at his ex-wife and simply started to laugh. "I'm suprised, but I appreciate the encouragement."
"Figured if I was going to be sleeping in here tonight, I could at least say something nice to you," Meng admitted. "Besides the girls need the best from their father right now."
"On a serious note," Jason brought up. "When we drop off the refugees, possibly at Andor. We need to decide if you and the girls will be leaving as well."
"What are you wanting?"
Reeves thought about the question. Nothing made him happier than to have his girls here with him. But the Jane Addams was about to seriouslt investigate the Borg and likely were bound to stumble upon them. "As much as I want you all close to me. I cannot guarantee your safety on this ship."
Sakura nodded. "But you can't guarantee that Andor will not be a target either."
"Its not as if the Borg gave us their plans for domination of the Federation," he responded. "But thi ahip will likely at some point engage with the Borg, Upon arriving on Andor, the girls and yourself can go stay with my parents." Going silent for a moment, Jason knew this wasn't a decision that needed to be soley decided on his own. "What did you want to do?"
"Honestly I'm not sure if Captain M'Raz would allow any civilian to stay on the ship," she brought aup as she adjusted in the bed to make herself more comfortable. 'But we'll figure something out I supose."
"That decision doesn't exactly need to be made tonight. So in the meantime, let's just clear our minds and try to get some rest. Got a busy day tomorrow."
Sakura nodded in agreement as she rolled over and pulled most of the covers her way. Sighing in response, Jason got under what was left. One thing that was going tobe added to his listof things in the morning was to find her a better portal bed. The last thing he needed was for his ex wife to be clmbing in bed with him every night, Eventually he would likely find himself on that spare bed, Also, he probably would have to clearify with the Captain on who would be getting dropped off on Andor. Just refugees, our families as well.
