Off-duty he generally wears shorts and a tee-shirt or tank-top.

== Personality Profile ==
====Before Joining ====
Before joining with the symbiont Kiiz, Vereyn was a compassionate, smart, nerdy young man. He always put others before himself, and made sure that others were taken care of. He had a stubborn side to him, which he got from his father, where he wouldn't budge unless he had too.

Vereyn was a natural introvert, and loved his alone time. He was able to relax and recharge by listening to music, reading a book, or working out. Though he was an introvert, he could be very outgoing. He loved to hang out with a few good friends and just talk or spend quality time on a holodeck.

The young Trill loved the outdoors. His favourite things revolve around bodies of water. Long walks by the ocean, beach volleyball, sunbathing, hiking, swimming, or just relaxing. The sound of the water, whether roaring waves or a trickling stream, calmed him.

====After Joining ====
While all of Vereyn's personality was still there, after he was joined it the Kiiz symbiont, it added the personalities of his previous hosts, enhancing Vereyn's outwardly personality.

He had a love for children, thanks to the original host Frin. Frin was a school teacher and had a passion for it. The students in his class were like his own, he cared for them and taught them everything they needed to know for life. Vereyn would smile when he saw children playing or having fun. He could not wait until he has his own.

The biggest conflict that he had is that the previous host, Jora, was an extrovert, while all the others were introverts. So he would have spouts of extrovertness. She was an Ambassador so she had to learn to be extroverted.

The third host, Reni, she was also a teacher. Though her love for kids wasn't as much as Frin's, she still loved them. The biggest part of her that contributed to the Kiiz personality was her ability to see the good in everyone.

The host just before Vereyn, Manit, was an R&D Engineer. He was stubborn, and had a temper. The man was blunt, and was not afraid to speak his mind, no matter how it made the others feel. Vereyn was glad that he didn't have that much of a problem, since the others and his own personality cancelled that out. Still, Manit; was kind and loving to the people he cared about.

Vereyn had inherited many personality traits from previous hosts. When he worked on a project, the young Trill tended to spend a long time looking into things. He didn't like this, but he was unable to change it as it was from Jora. Because of this fact, Vereyn also has a hard time making decisions. Though, capable of making decisions, at times, he was unable to make them quickly, due to the stress of the situation.

Hobbies & Interests Vereyn Kiiz has always believed that life should be about more than just work. While engineering is his passion, his interests extend beyond the hum of a warp core and the glow of a diagnostic panel.

One of his greatest joys is botany. Whether it's tending to a small hydroponic garden in his quarters or studying the unique plant life of newly discovered worlds, he finds solace in the quiet patience that plants require. There's something about watching life grow that reminds him there’s still beauty in the universe, even in the darkest times.

Music has been a part of his life for as long as he can remember. He plays the violin, often using it as a way to unwind after long shifts in engineering. Classical compositions, Trill folk melodies, and even the occasional human jazz piece find their way into his repertoire. He doesn’t perform for an audience—just for himself, the ship, and whoever happens to be walking past his quarters at the right (or wrong) time.

A lifelong reader, Vereyn is rarely without a book or data pad nearby. He enjoys a mix of genres, from historical accounts of early space exploration to intricate mystery novels that challenge his mind. He also has a particular fondness for technical manuals—not just for necessity, but because he genuinely enjoys understanding the intricacies of starship systems, past and present. To him, reading a well-written engineering manual is like unlocking the secrets of the universe, one schematic at a time.

When he's not buried in a book or tuning an EPS conduit, he enjoys writing. Whether it's personal logs, engineering theories, or short stories, putting words to a blank page helps him process his thoughts. Sometimes it's a reflection of his own experiences, other times it's just a way to escape reality for a while.

Despite his preference for intellectual pursuits, Vereyn also enjoys beach volleyball—a sport he picked up during his Academy days in San Francisco. The blend of strategy, teamwork, and physical exertion is a welcome break from the rigid structure of Starfleet life. There's something liberating about the feel of sand beneath his feet, the sun on his face, and the adrenaline rush of a well-placed spike.

For Vereyn, these hobbies aren’t just pastimes—they’re anchors. In a life dictated by duty and the ever-present dangers of deep space, they remind him of who he is beyond the uniform. And sometimes, that’s the most important thing of all.

====Childhood====
Vereyn was born to Haytam and Neera Polan, both unjoined Trill, in Hira, a coastal city on Trill. Haytam was a Biologist at the Trill Science Ministry, and his mother was a Chemist at the same ministry.

Vereyn was the oldest of five children. He had a twin sister, two younger sisters, and a younger brother. Marem was his twin sister, Coli and Bila were his younger sisters, and Kopt was his younger brother.

====Teens====
As Vereyn grew older, he started thinking about symbiosis and whether it was something he wanted to pursue. When he turned 17, he made some big decisions. The first was that he wanted to apply for symbiosis, and the next was to join Starfleet. He sent in applications for both. Within a few months, he heard back from both of them—he was accepted into both. Immediately, he reported to the Symbiosis Commission to get details on his trials. They accepted the fact that he wanted to pursue a Starfleet career and made it so that he could submit his trials to the Trill embassy on Earth.

====Starfleet Academy====
When Vereyn turned 18, he moved to San Francisco, California, Earth, to begin his Starfleet Cadet Training. The young Trill chose to study Starship Operations and focus on Transporter Operations. During his junior year at the Academy, he was able to serve aboard a starship, the USS Fredrickson, as a Junior Operations Officer and Apprentice Transporter Specialist. He learned the most from this experience. In his opinion, hands-on experience is the best way to learn.

In his senior year, he had to return to Trill to do his final evaluation. Upon completion, the Symbiosis Commission passed him for a host. He was thrilled! That night, he celebrated. There were no symbionts ready to be transplanted at that time, and he was fine with that. He had one more week of final exams, and he wanted to pass them without the knowledge of the symbiont. Vereyn graduated with honors in the Ship Operation department.

====Joining====
Upon graduation, Vereyn got a call from the Symbiosis Commission. There was a symbiont that needed to be transplanted immediately. The USS Fredrickson was heading that way and agreed to drop him off. Upon arrival, he was greeted by the head of the Commission and his family. They all immediately went to the surgery center. He changed into a surgical gown and hugged his family as the surgeons took him in.

As he entered the OR, he saw an elderly man lying there. The older man smiled as the bed with the younger Trill lying on it. The older man, Manit, thanked Vereyn for taking on the honor of hosting the symbiont, Kiiz. Vereyn lay there and stared at the ceiling as the gloved hands of the surgeon opened up the pouch on his stomach. He heard the snip of the scissors that severed the host and the symbiont. Knowing what that meant, a tear slipped from the corner of his eye. He was suddenly filled with fear of the unknown. The surgeon lifted the pouch higher, and he could feel the symbiont go inside. Closing his eyes, he could feel Kiiz take hold. Then his brain flooded with memories, feelings, and comfort. A small smile came across his face as he took his new identity—Vereyn Kiiz.

====Starfleet====
After the Commission released him, he returned to Starfleet Headquarters to receive his first commission, the USS Pend Oreille, a Galaxy-class starship. He was given the position of Operations Officer and Transporter Specialist. During his service there, he gained a lot of experience.

During one mission, the USS Pend Oreille was under attack by Romulans. The power manifolds exploded, and the ship was losing power fast. Vereyn ran from the operations center to engineering to lend a hand. Engineers were scattered around engineering, and medical was on their way. The young Trill crawled his way through the Jefferies tubes to find the manifold. He was able to find it and fix the issue. Luckily, there were some other engineers there that were able to get in and help him. With their help—and the help of the previous host, who was an R&D Engineer—they were able to fix it. But when another torpedo hit the ship, a conduit blew right next to him, sending him and several engineers across the room. As he lay there, ears ringing, his left leg throbbed. Reaching down, he found a beam through his thigh. Upon seeing that, he screamed, then passed out.

He awoke in sickbay a few days later with his leg wrapped up. He wasn’t fully able to walk without a limp right away and sometimes needs a cane to walk.

The Assistant Chief Engineer was killed in the attack, and the Chief asked if Vereyn would take over. The Trill accepted his new role.

====Assistant Chief Engineer====
Vereyn served as Assistant Chief Engineer aboard the USS Pend Oreille for several years. During his tenure, he worked closely with the ship's Chief Engineer, refining his skills in starship maintenance, emergency repairs, and warp core diagnostics. His innovative solutions and ability to remain calm under pressure earned him a reputation as a reliable and skilled officer. He mentored junior engineers, often sharing insights from both his own experience and that of Kiiz's previous host.

During a classified mission near the Cardassian border, Vereyn played a crucial role in preventing a catastrophic warp core breach after a sabotaged coolant system threatened to destroy the ship. His quick thinking and decisive action not only saved the Pend Oreille but also ensured the success of their mission. His actions did not go unnoticed, and Starfleet Command took note of his engineering prowess.

====Chief Engineer====
After several years as Assistant Chief Engineer, Vereyn received his promotion to Chief Engineer aboard the USS Jane Addams, an older Ambassador-class starship. Taking on this new challenge, he became responsible for the entire engineering department, overseeing all shipboard systems and ensuring peak operational efficiency. His experience and leadership were put to the test during the Jane Addams’ first deep-space mission, where he successfully implemented structural modifications that allowed the ship to navigate through an unstable nebula.

Now, as Chief Engineer, Vereyn continues to push the boundaries of engineering excellence, drawing from both his personal expertise and the wealth of knowledge passed down through Kiiz's previous hosts. His journey from Operations to Engineering has shaped him into a seasoned officer, dedicated to both his ship and crew.

====Reflections====
Starfleet had always been a symbol of hope for Vereyn—of exploration, of learning, of pushing beyond what was known into the vast unknown. He had built a life among the stars, poured his heart into the hum of a starship's engines, and found purpose in the rhythm of warp fields and plasma conduits. Engineering was more than a profession; it was his way of keeping the universe together, one repair at a time.
But no amount of training or experience could have prepared him for what happened next.
The day the Borg came, everything changed.
They had been heading home, the USS Jane Addams returning from a long patrol along the Cardassian border. The crew had been talking about shore leave, reconnecting with loved ones, and finally breathing easy for a while. He could still remember the laughter in engineering, the lighthearted complaints about the inefficiencies of Starfleet bureaucracy, the way anticipation seemed to hum in the air alongside the warp core.
Then they entered the Sol System.
The first thing that hit them was the silence—then the screams. Starfleet Command was gone, replaced by frantic distress calls, voices pleading for help, for escape, for a miracle that wasn’t coming. And on the viewscreen, looming in the darkness, were the Borg.
The automated emergency transmission was clear: Do not engage. Flee the system immediately.
But how could they? How could they leave civilians behind? How could they turn their backs on those who had no chance of outrunning assimilation?
Vereyn had been in Starfleet long enough to know that orders weren’t always right. So, like many others, they disobeyed. They acted. Some ships fought, knowing they wouldn’t make it out. Others, like the Jane Addams, filled their cargo bays and corridors with as many refugees as they could before making a desperate escape.
And then they left.
And Earth—Earth stayed behind.
Vereyn doesn’t talk about that day much. The memories still creep in during the quiet moments, in the low thrum of the ship at night, in the way his hands sometimes tremble when he reroutes power through a failing conduit. Engineering is about control, about stability, about making sure that everything works as it should. But no amount of rerouted power or reinforced hull plating could fix what had been lost that day.
The Federation isn’t what it was. The council is gone, Starfleet is in retreat, and the Jane Addams is left wandering the remnants of what used to be their home, trying to pick up the pieces. Vereyn does what he can, the only way he knows how—by keeping the ship running, by giving the crew one less thing to worry about, by making sure that as long as there’s still power in the engines, they have a fighting chance.
Maybe it’s not enough.
But it’s all he has.
