Personal History | Meerah was born in 2332 at the family estate outside Murona, Trillius Prime (Trill), to father Diswan and mother Koray. She demonstrated an aptitude for languages from an early age, mastering Andorian and Romulan. Her mother, a xenolinguistics researcher for the Federation, was thrilled at the prospect of a linguistics progeny in the family. Her father, a life-long Trill politician, was elated, secretly hoping one of his daughters would follow in his footsteps. Meerah, however, had her own ideas about the future. She applied for the Symbiote program but was initially passed over during the upcoming selection cycle. She also submitted her application to Starfleet Academy, planning to double major in Subspace Radio Communications and Xenolinguistics. In the interim, Meerah took the opportunity to travel the galaxy, spending time on Risa, Andoria, and Tellar Prime. She was recalled to Trillius Prime when her parents received official notification that Meerah had been selected for the Symbiote Program. That same week, Meerah received her Academy acceptance letter. In a conundrum, Meerah turned to her parents for guidance. She wanted both outcomes, but she also understood the selective nature of both paths. Meerah, relying on her father’s connections, petitioned Starfleet Academy to allow her a later start date under a religious exemption based on Meerah’s acceptance into the Symbiote Program. After much political wrangling, Meerah was allowed to delay her entry to the Academy with the caveat that she would join her class as soon as the symbiote was stable. She was joined with the Praavor symbiote in late 2351. A month after the joining procedure, Meerah arrived on Earth to start her term at Starfleet Academy. Her gregarious nature and her wicked sense of humor, especially a penchant for practical jokes, made her an instant hit with others. She continued practicing gymnastics during her Academy time and took up trail or cross-country running in her limited free time. Late in her Junior year, a friend introduced Meerah to SCUBA diving. By the time Meerah graduated, she had earned her Master Diver certification. Meerah graduated in 2355 and was commissioned as an Ensign. Her first posting was aboard the USS Armstrong (NCC-57537) as a junior Communications Officer. This proved to be a fairly nominal posting. Her next posting was to the USS Kilimanjaro (NCC-2303). During an Away mission, her team was ambushed by native, hostile, humanoid lifeforms. As a result of the ensuing combat, Meerah sustained life-threatening injuries. The Kilimanjaro’s Medical Staff relied on their extensive trauma medicine backgrounds over the subsequent days, fighting round the clock to preserve both Meerah and the Praavor symbiote. The Kilimanjaro rushed the stable but comatose Meerah to the nearest Starfleet Medical Starbase 253, famed for its experience with Trill patients. However, due to the nature of the injuries and the impact they might have on the Praavor symbiont, Meerah received cybernetic cranial implants. These implants would ultimately spell the end of her Communications career. They were not compatible with any of Starfleet’s communications interfaces. Rather than accept a Medical Retirement, Meerah petitioned the Assignments Bureau for a transfer to the Diplomatic Relations service. She argued that her xenolinguistic background and shared memories from the Praavor symbiote uniquely equipped her for this task. After clearance from the Medical Division, Meerah was returned to duty and transferred to the Diplomatic Office’s Course on Bolarus IX for training. Meerah accepted the challenging, year-long academic course with a smile. Once she had completed the academic portion of the course, Meerah traveled to the Diplomatic Enclave on Arcturus for the practical portion of the course. She shadowed Commander T’kinn, a Vulcanoid Rigelian officer, for 6 months, learning the rigors of serving as a Diplomatic Officer. She has served as a Diplomatic Officer since then. |
