Mission:
Resistance is Necessary
Location: Deck 2-First Officer's Quarters
OOC: Takes place before Manifest Options
After returning from Utopia Planitia, brought Sakura, Kimora and Leila to his quarters. The last thing, he was doing was leaving his daughters in a cargo bay. Though he considered leaving his ex-wife in one, Jason found it best due to the current circumstances and for the sake of their children found it best for them all to reside at his place. Entering the quarters, the girls straight to their bedroom to check it out. From the sounds coming from the second bedroom they were clearly excited over the bunkbed.
Looking around the living room, Sakura down on the couch and ran her fingers through her hair. In an instant with this invasion her whole life had changed. It was good to be alive, her children had suffered the trauma like so many were currently dealing with. She was even fortunate enough to have an actual quarter to sleep in and be surrounded by strangers. If anything, Sakura felt bad for not feeling more grateful. But at this moment, she felt so useless.
Reeves after placing the things they brought on board in the corner, he down in the single seat to the left of her. "Clearly there is something on your mind. I try to keep the place clean the best I can."
Meng gave him a half smile. "It's just that I don't like just sitting around on my hands. Clearly the Jane Addams is in need of a lot of repairs around here and I am available."
"That might not be a good idea."
"How come," she retorted. "You're well aware that I have plenty of experience working on ships. Plus, the able bodies you have available, mentally might not be at their best right now."
The Commander thought about what she said and sighed. As much as he didn't want to admit it, Sakura was right. They needed all the help they could get at this moment. "I will run your request by Captain M'Raz when we meet later. We'll be going over personnel changes. I'll get his opinion about putting civilians to work."
"Thank you. I feel like I am one of the lucky ones. Definitely need to pay if forward and do my part. Guess I never really congratulated you on making First Officer."
"Better late than never I suppose," Reeves responded. "Honestly I am that you and the girls are here under one roof with myself. Going to remain under radio silence for a while, so there's a lot people with family on Earth who don't have a clue."
"So no word on evacuations?" Sakura asked.
"We detected transports leaving Luna gathering as much as they can. Some personal shuttles. But those transports likely will not return to the system to pick up anyone else. Fifty million people residing there and odds we're anticipating forty million being left behind. Hoping these Borg don't attack there as well."
Running her hands through her hair again, she stared up at the ceiling in frustration. "Suppose there will be more left behind on Mars. Being there is a one hundred and twenty million."
"When we get a chance to break radio silence I plan on contacting my parents on Vega IX," Jason informed her. "Its very likely once we find a place to drop everyone off at the Jane Addams will be called to help counter the Borg. You and the girls can stay with my parents."
"Hold up, so you just plan on dumping me and the girls with your parents?" she responded. Clearly Sakura was unhappy with this decision. "I thought that we were in this together?"
"We are in this together, but I am not bringing our children into a fight we likely won't be returning from against the damn Borg."
Sakura thought about it. "Fine call your parents. But I am staying here to fight alongside you."
"Look I am the first officer this isn't up for discussion," Jason spoke up. "These girls need at least one surviving parent."
"First of all, lower your voice," his ex-wife responded. "And those girls have two grandparents who did a fairly decent job of raising you. And in case you forgot my entire family was on Earth when those things showed up. So, I'm not going to sit this one out."
The Commander wanted to come back with his own argument, but it all seemed overshadowed by the fact realization that Sakura had lost her own parents and older brother who resided in Dallas, Texas. "Have you tried reaching out to them?"
"Several times while Utopia," she answered. "These Borg completely blocked all communication going to the surface. The girls haven't said anything. But I'm certain Kimora knows what happened exactly on Earth. And their going to hear what happened from somebody on board at some point. We need to rip the preverbal band aid off and really explain what's going on."
Looking back towards the bedroom, he looked back to Sakura and nodded in agreement. "I just hate killing a part of their innocence."
"I know, but they have to be allowed to grieve and grow from it." Standing up, she looked down and extended her hand to Jason."
Accepting the hand, Jason stood from his seat as they made their way to the children's bedroom.
