760 words; about a 4 minute read
Mission:
The Raz Defense
Location: USS Jane Addams: Executive Officer's Quarters
Jason and Sakura were back on the Jane Addams clearing out everything that was valuable to their family. The Jane Addams was deemed safe enough for the crew to recover what was needed, but still it was advised that children shouldn't be brought aboard. Before coming onboard, Sakura had dropped the girls off at the day on the Crazy Horse. They now found themselves loading up a crate on the cart, Jason brushed off a holo photo of him and the girls. This ship had been his home for the past five years. Jane Addams had gotten this crew through quite a bit on the frontlines against the Cardassian. Now to be lost in its second encounter with the Borg.
Placing the crate, she had brought her on the ship upon initially arriving, Sakura looked over at Jason who clearly was saddened by what was happening here. It was a look; she had on her own face when leaving her home on Utopia Planetia. "Are you alright?"
"Alright as I'm going to be," Reeves admitted. "But I am grateful that were alive, even though we lost so many."
"I remember you telling me years ago that one giving their life to maintain the freedoms the Federation affords us is the ultimate sacrifice," Meng responded. "Doesn't make the pain of losing people any easier. But you always told the girls and I that this was the job that everyone who joined Starfleet, signed up for the possibility.
Reeves simply nodded. "Guess we both have officially lost our homes to the Borg. But the Crazy Horse is a new beginning. You still thinking about sticking with me?"
"Of course," she responded. "Sitting in one place isn't an option. This past week or so, I've been trying to figure out how make myself useful. You of all people know that I don't like feeling useless or powerless. But I want to put all my focus on our girls."
"Really now?" From his tone, Jason was clearly surprised to hear his ex-wife say those words.
"Don't sound so surprised. Going to let you and the rest the Starfleet folks deal with this Borg problem. While I focus on our family. The Crazy Horse has a school on board. Who knows, I might just consider teaching for a bit."
Jason chuckled a bit. "Its just that I can't see you not working on some computer system."
Sakura shook her head. "I'll still be thinking of ways to handle the Borg problem. But I'll just run those ideas by you, and you can do what you want with them."
"You did help us acquire that runabout," he acknowledged. "Looking forward to really taking that thing out for a serious spin real soon."
"Hopefully the other shipyards will take up manufacturing them since Utopia is now longer around to do so."
The Commander nodded in agreement. "I will run it by the Captain. The runabout and most of the shuttles survived the battle and will be transferred over to the Crazy Horse."
Satisfied and clearly happy that the runabout survived the attack. It was nice to know that something from the shipyard was still around. "I guess were going to be roommates for a little while longer."
"Don't remind me," he replied jokingly. "As terrifying as this has been for the girls. I can tell that their happy to have us all under one roof. And I'm extremely happy to have the three of you close by. Honestly, I'm not sure if we can stop these Borg before they cause too much damage to the Federation. Nobody seems to have a clue what their next move is going to be. Only speculation. So, it's best to be on a moving ship."
"We both agree on that fact," Sakura agreed. "Think we have everything that's actually worth taking out of here. Got some ideas for the new place on the Crazy Horse. Going to see about turning it into a home and just a place to live. I know how you are when it comes to decorating."
"Hey, I just need a place to lay my head."
Sakura grabbed a bag. "My point exactly."
Throwing his hands up, Jason gave in. "Go ahead and decorate the place as you see fit. Just remember that I live there as well. Now let's get out of here." Shouldering a bag and getting behind the cart containing the heavier items, they proceeded to exit the quarters.
